I've been to Cape Ann on many occasions and painted in rockport and Gloucester. I painted this from an old photo that I took many years ago. I did a painting of this location from life a couple of years ago. The building that is in the above picture had burned down and was repaced by a prefabricated metal structure which doesn't have the same character as the original. Also, the fishing boat above is no longer there. I was told that it nows works out of Maine. It's a shame, because those old beat up buildings and boats make very interesting subjects to paint.

Hi
Were you ever a member of International Plein Air Painters ?
Your work and name seem familiar.
Love this type of subject matter and have been painting outdoors for 35 years myself.
You should get to Maine to paint. Once you've had the chance to paint there, you have to keep going back - I've painted the same island for all those 35 years..
Hi JR,
I've never been a member of IPAP. I'm a member of NYPAP. I have painted in Southern portion of Maine in York, Ogunquit, kennenbuckport and Portland. It is a beautiful state. On my next trip there, I will go further North to paint.
